On the right side of the Jiu River, half way between Balta Village and Gura Motrului Village, downstream from Gura Motrului Monastery, there is a site which the Alexis Project has been investigating for some time.

In the middle of winter, after a large flow in the Jiu River, the Alexis team is again able to get to the site, to save artefacts found there for the study of Oltenia Museum specialists.
We strongly believe that, not so far from here, perhaps just in the area of the Monastery, there must be an ancient site, being actively eroded by the Jiu River.
The river is still high, but has now gone down in level enough to now make it possible to make discoveries of artefacts reworked by the river after the recent high waters of winter.

Although the weather was very cold, sufficient to freeze shallow pools of water, the team was able to find a number of artefacts.

Piece of brick found on the right bank of the Jiu River, near Bilta Vilage, at the point called "Balta Manastirii". It seems to be like a stamp on the brick, the letter "M" for example, but that is as much as can be gleaned.

This piece of pottery was found on the right bank of the Jiu, near Bîlta Village, in a place called Balta Mastirii, not far from the monastery Gura Motrului, near which it is believed the artefacts are weathering from the ground and being transported by the river further downstream.
