The Fossiliferous site of Bucovatz
Bucovatz is a small village about ten kilometres east of Craiova.
This site is a main site of Oltenia, the same as Bilta, Meteu and Rovinari, from the old Romanian II sediments.
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe
The site was, until now, claimed as a natural monument of the Oltenia district, but today there are many houses built in the area, so it is not possible to get closer, because it is on private land.
The site is about 50 meters long and about 5 - 6 metres high, with the same fossils as the rest of the Lake Oltenia sediments.
Because Oltenia Museum has the ability to verify the scientific importance of this information and because the specialists of Oltenia Museum have made contributions to this site, the copyrights to it are part of Oltenia Museum property.
