Golumbelu Church
In company with Arch. Dr. Florin Ridiche, the Alexis Project Team went to investigate a historical monument from the small village of Golumbelu, in the northern part of Dolj County.
This 19th Century church is still in reasonably good condition, but needs urgent repairs, which will be expensive. The church has beautiful paintings on its walls, but the entire building has had to be reinforced with iron rods.
The church is protected against vandals, but it is not marked as a historical monument.

With the help of the priest at Golumbelu Church, searching in the church's archive, we have found a very important document, written by another priest of the church, many years ago, with the translation into Romanian of the inscription on the stone.
The text is like a wonderful goodbye to everyone by the person who has died, in an old language, yet more beautiful in this way.

Adrian, Alina, Alexandru and a reporter from the local newspaper Editia Speciala, together with the Mayor Ilie Nemtaru, from Farcas village, also with the vice-mayor of the village and the priest Maria Constantin, went to see how local authorities from Farcas are trying to promote and protect local historical monuments such as the 19th Century church of Golembelu, which is part of Farcas village.

We could see all the actions for the security of the church, including the preservation of old books, written in the Chirilica script, as well as beautiful painted wooden icons from the 19th Century.

The Mayor, together with the Alexis Project want to make a project called "The Land of the Wolves" to make a search in the area for local monuments of culture, history as well as other targets, and to promote the local monuments, and to protect and repair the old Golumbelu Church, a historical as well as beautiful monument.

Inside the church there is a grave with a huge stone inscribed with a text in the Chirilica script, which covers the grave of a person from the Bibescu family, a local rich land owner from Farcas, about 200 years old, never opened.

As can be seen here, the images of Hell are better than the ones of Heaven, in the vision of the ancient painter, in Hell there are beautiful women and a lot of people who during their life enjoyed the benefits of spending money and having parties.
At the same time, in Heaven there was only a sweet melody, the people there reading old books and so on. It is hard to say which life would be preferred, judging just by the pictures on the walls.
Apart from this, some paintings have been poorly restored, and on others vandals have written graffiti. As soon as possible, this beautiful monument must be reconstructed, even though it will cost much money.

These paintings are from the beginning of the 19th Century, and are damaged by the passing of time.

The church is a historical monument, and should be closed at once, and preparations made to repair it, both the structure of the church as well as restoration of the frescoes.

To the south of the 19th Century church of Golumbelu, Farcasu village, there is land where an important local owner, named Bibescu has built a kind of castle, known locally as Conac, but today there is no trace of it except artefacts under the ground. Also, in the northern area, from the same church, in the cemetery nearby, there are a few ancient graves of Bibescu's family, reused by locals.
