Portraits of the people who founded Gruitsa
Adrian and Alexandru are in the process of a long and difficult process of research to identify the portraits of the people who founded Gruitsa. The task is complicated by the fact that the texts associated with the portraits are in an old Cyrillic alphabet which is difficult to decipher, and in any case has suffered much from the ravages of time.Borislav Balushev, an expert on such matters, very kindly offered to assess and translate the texts. These photographs are the result of this very difficult task.

The Ghost Church of Gruița
Adrian writes:
Look,my friends, what criminals can do to the most beautiful church in Oltenia, and to pretend, without any shame, to be Christians!
They have no care for the House of God and the temple of the people!

The Ghost Church of Gruița
Adrian writes:
Silently and slowly, the beautiful church of Gruita is dying in the middle of human misery. No one is interested to save the most beautiful church in the whole of Oltenia. No one is worried about God's reaction to such misery.
Gruita my love, you are the monument to Christianity of our days, of my people's heart in the presence of its own heritage...
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 7th September 2013
Adrian writes:
This is a symbol of the victory of Christians against Christianity. Being a Ghost Churches caretaker, I am asking God that in one year from the time that Gruita falls down, all persons involved in this shame will be called in front of Him for Judgement! Amen!
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 19th November 2012
The most beautiful old church of Oltenia is destroyed, yet the mother church has still built a lot of new churches for the glory of itself.
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 19th November 2012
Gruita still waits for our help!
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 19th November 2012
Adrian writes:
It is very hot in the hills of the Amaradia valley, where the Gruitza Ghost Church is already dead because of the ignorance of people.
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 4th July 2012
The most beautiful church of Oltenia is already history, just the same as many other values of the people, unable to protect their patrimony for future generations.
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 4th July 2012
Piece by piece, the church falls down, crumbling into the earth.

Adrian writes:
Piece by piece, the Gruita ghost church falls down, never to be raised again.

Where are all those 2000 years of Christianity of these people, since God becomes a symbol for the heart and soul in the service of wild life, if it can not save the most beautiful church in the entire region of Oltenia?
Where are all those men who are paid to work for the good of Romanian patrimony?
Where is our feeling for history?
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 1st May 2012
Inside, all is devastation, but still there are candles burning inside the ghost church.
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 1st May 2012
Adrian writes:
After 2 000 years of Christianity, my people have let go of its own past and history, allowing the most beautiful church in Oltenia to die, a true moment of stupidity!
The latest news from Gruita, the wooden crosses ghost church, is that it is about to fall down.
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 1st April 2012
The first tower of the church has had half of it broken forever, with all the beautiful pictures from inside it, even though the Alexis Project has made a real war to apply for an EU project to repair and promote this most beautiful church of the Oltenia area.
How many pictures are on the internet about this church before the Alexis Project began this war to make an SOS for saving Gruita? And how many pictures of it, including our site and others, are there now, to prove that we strongly believe that this historical monument deserves to survive against the stupidity of the people.
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 1st April 2012
I have no words to describe to you, my friends, brothers and sisters, my feelings today, on a cloudy, windy and cold day of the spring of 2012, when, being alone on top of the Amaradia hills, where the Gruita ghost church is dying, I have seen that God is alone, without people around Him, to protect His church and also their own heritage.
My quest is very simple: from this day forward, when the Gruita ghost church starts to die, in one year from now, I ask all people who have responsibilities to protect and save it, to come in front of their God to answer for their crime against Romanian Patrimony.
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 1st April 2012
The Alexis Project is a wish and a dream: to identify, save, and protect and promote the beauty of Romania, the most wonderful country on the planet.
It is a duty and an honour for us to be involved in such a patrimony project.

The Gruitza ghost church, in the Amaradia River valley, has been scorched by fire, lit by people whom it is best not to discuss.
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 17th September 2011
Adrian and Alexandru risked their lives to enter the ghost church, which is ready to fall down at any second, in order to take pictures of it, desperate to do some good for this house of God.
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 17th September 2011
In one of the pictures, from a wall inside the church, a young and beautiful ancient lady looks at us, waiting for help. Around the church is a large area already destroyed by fire, even the wooden crosses from the ancient cemetery to the east.
The entire building is about to fall down, without any hope of being saved, even by the Alexis Project or by Miss Gabriela Antonova, manager of an important consulting company for EU projects from Bulgaria, as well as the Mayor, Eng. Adam Atanasie from Goiesti who is ready to help.
Adrian is desperate for this church, the most beautiful church in the entire Oltenia area, because even with a huge list of important people, even from the Mother Church, they are ready to talk a lot, but they do nothing for this historical monument.

The Ghost Church of Gruița is a historical monument with huge wooden crosses inside, but it is a very damaged building.
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 22nd April 2011
Because of the danger to visitors to the site, in cooperation with the local authorities, the Alexis Team did a lot of work to protect the building.
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 22nd April 2011
As well, the team set up warning barriers to prevent visitors from getting too close to the dangerous building.

In the Goiesti region, but a long way from Goiesti village, on a field on top of the hills of the Goiesti area, not far from a ghost village called Gruița, is this beautiful ghost church, still with graves nearby.
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 17th April 2011
The church is badly damaged, and has the popular name of La Cruci, because of the huge wooden crosses inside.
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 17th April 2011
There are beautiful pictures on the walls, but in a very bad condition.
Photo: Adrian Gheorghe 17th April 2011
This is a real treasure of the Romanian people.

The church is at the GPS point 44.50282 N 23.80376 E

The Ghost Church of Gruița, Dolj county, known also as "La Cruci" or "at crosses", a beautiful historical monument from Oltenia which needs to be protected and repaired as soon as possible.
The photographs show, respectively, the sadly neglected church from the outside, and an image from inside the church, just over the main entrance to the church, from "Pridovor" to "Pronaos", in which you can see the image of the church when it was made.

These documents and the photo are very important. The photograph shows the ghost church when it was still in good condition, many years ago, which is vital for any future project to repair it.
