Mihai Emenescu at Filiaşi

Near today's railway station in Filiaşi, there is a very small, old building, which is the former railway station of the town, dating to the 19th Century. This modest building is one of the many historical monuments of the town, besides many others in the area.

Here, in the 18th century was, for a short time, the greatest Romanian poet, Mihai Eminescu. As you can see, everywhere in my country, each place can be, very easily, a wonderful one.
Romania is a land of stories, everywhere.

The visit has been commemorated with a plaque on the railway station, as well as a fine statue.

A reminder of ancient times is this old water pipe for steam engines, now standing forlornly beside a track overgrown with grass, waiting for a steam train which never comes....

These supports for the eaves of the roof are done in the traditional Romanian manner, being carved into a stylised horse head. Horse heads in traditional Romanian culture had an apotropaic function - they were supposed to turn away evil.
