The Puturoasa Site

Puturoasa site

Adrian went out by himself to do a survey of many villages, including Lipovu, Radovan, Perisor and Cioroiu Nou to look for limestone quarries which might have been used by the ancient Roman builders of Cioroiu Nou.

The entire area is full of limestone deposits, just half a metre under the ground, but the only really good place for suitable building stone found up till now is in the Lipovu Mic area.

At the exit from Perisor village, on the main road to Craiova, on the left hand side of the road, under hills a few hundred metres from the road, on the eastern part of the Puturoasa valley, where a small river is still running, Adrian found a place where limestone for building stones has been dug in the past.

Here, on the side of the hill, on the right part of a road leading from the main road, with a small well made of concrete, completed in the year 1925, on the left part of the small road, not very far from the small river, there is a new ancient site, with GPS points:

N=44.15107° E=23.51315°

Here there are a few fragments of pottery of good quality, as well as a few fragments of ancient bricks and limestone blocks from buildings. It is unknown at present whether the site has been registered by the authorities.
