Romanian Houses from the early 1900s

1900s House 1900s House

These houses have the specific architecture of that time, one called "Neoromanesc" or the New Romanian style. As you can see, they have elaborate decorations, that would have looked fabulous back when they were built, but now could really use some good repairs and restoration.

What is very interesting about these houses is that they all have the year they were built on their facades and, between the second and third digit of the year, two capital letters. These were the initials of the owner, and they were a mark of prestige and wealth, since such a house was really expensive.

These houses from the 1900s can be found on Frunzei Street and Claudiu Street, in the eastern part of Bucharest, close to Piata Muncii - an important intersection, sub-way station and commercial centre.
