Dr Gheorghe has a company, Ethnoarta, which produces traditional and modern Romanian wooden carvings for sale.
These photos show Dr Gheorghe and Stanciu Orestica creating a carving in the company factory in Filiaşi.

The project is first outlined on paper by Dr Gheorghe, then transferred to the wood blank, as shown here. The wood used is carefully selected so that the best possible artefact may be carved. This particular piece of wood was 2000 x 150 x 150 mm, well dried and with no knots.

Enache "Chiriac" Gheorghe, from Racarii de Sus, is an excellent carver. He is shown here starting work with a small adze to rough out the main shape of the carving using well directed force, patience and precision.

After this step Enache uses wood chisels and a mallet to gradually bring the shape out of the wood.

After the piece is finished and the surface is carefully prepared by sanding, the final step is to cover the sculpture with a special lacquer, and the piece is then ready for the showroom.
